RAMMED EARTHRammed earth is a way of constructing with soil in order to transform the loosely compacted material into something resembling sedimentary rock. Using a ratio of 30% clay and 70% sand will produce structures which have the greatest longevity. Finished rammed earth structures can be as strong as concrete, are fireproof, and are great insulators against heat, cold and sound. Rammed earth structures end up being cool in summer, cozy in the winter and can stand for hundreds of years.

MAINTENANCE: Rammed earth constructions require little to no maintenance and can be treated with clear sealers, covered
in a variety of ways such as clear plaster and mud plaster but they can also be left natural. Exposure to water can cause
deterioration of the walls over time. Cracks should be sealed as they appear.
CONSTRUCTION TIME: One person working alone can accomplish 3-4sq meters of rammed earth wall per day, using hand tools.
