FIELD DRESSINGField Dressing is the process of dissembling an animal at the site of its death for the purposes of cooling it down, removing unwanted parts, cleaning the animal and preparing it for butchering.
This process should be undertaken as quickly as possible after an animal has died. Heat aids in the decomposition process and even in very cold temperatures the animal’s body can retain the heat for a long time. By removing its fur and internal organs the animal can cool down much faster and so it will preserve the freshness of the meat. The act of field dressing not only attempts to delay the process of decomposition but also enables the animal to be transported more easily by removing any unwanted parts at the site of its death. |
