BIOGASBiogas is amazing. It can be made from fecal and/or kitchen waste and it produces carbon dioxide when burned. The whole process starts with a slurry made of waste and water (1:10) in a closed chamber. The bacteria in the chamber use all of the oxygen in a couple of weeks and when the oxygen is used then a different group of bacteria start breaking down the waste to produce methane. Methane builds up in the chamber and is then able to be used in stoves, for lighting and to produce electricity. Spent slurry
can be removed from the anaerobic digestion chamber and used as a fertilizer for plants. To summarize, biogas is a truly renewable recourse and a clean burning fuel which is made from waste. *If you plan on making biogas, since it is combustible, do not make it in an enclosed space. |
MAINTENANCE: Your biogas digester will need occasional feeding and as depleted slurry flows out the output it will need to be caught in another bucket which then can be used as fertilizer.
CONSTRUCTION TIME: Biogas digester could take as little as a few hours to construct but will take a month to start producing burnable gas.
